Chrysanthemums are fun and easy to grow, and they give your garden a colorful bonus after most annuals and perennials are finished for the season.
TRY THEM THIS FALL
Mums can take colder weather and, because they’re hardy, will show up year after year with a little care. If you don’t have mums in your garden, add a few this fall. Buy potted mums that are full of buds but not yet in bloom and plant them in a sunny spot. You’ll enjoy a splash of color this fall and can easily multiply your mums next year when they begin to grow.
GREAT EXPERIMENT FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES
Next spring, when your mums start putting out shoots, pinch a few 4-6″ sections, dip them in a root stimulator and put them in moist sand. In 10 days or so, you’ll have a mass of roots on your cuttings and can plant them in the garden for an even bigger splash of fall color next year!
